I was out and about in meetings and on the phone for a good chunk of last week, which meant not alot of “desk time”.
I also have two small children, and I need to share the school pick ups and drops offs with my husband, and take the children to their various clubs.
I work flexibly around my family commitments, and so If I need to then I work before they get up, after they go to bed, or in the foyer of wherever they are having their club. Not because I have to but because I want to, and because delivery is important to me.
Working flexibly means that I can choose when and where I work.
Here is a picture from Saturday afternoon, I had taken the baby to soft play (whilst the bigger one was at football) and afterwards the baby went down for a really long nap. There were a few things that I wanted to get tied up before half term, so I grabbed a coffee and logged on for a bit.
The point of this post is, a typical 9 – 5 doesn’t fit around most people’s lives any longer.
Life is busy, and there is a constant conflict of priorities which means stress and pressure. Too much stress and pressure results in sickness, absence and lack of productivity.
Working flexibly helps with that, it helps me to juggle and balance my commitments, whilst saving my sanity.
Last week I did what I needed to do get stuff done, I delivered on my promises at work, and at home.
This is just one example of how a flexible working pattern can work. Having a flexible working approach has so many benefits, not just to people but to how businesses perform.
